2024 Victorian Councillor Service Award nominations are now open
So much of the work councillors do goes unnoticed or unthanked.
That’s why each year the MAV is proud to present the Councillor Service Awards. These awards recognise Victorian councillors for their long service to communities and all the hard work they do.
Nominations for the 2024 Councillor Service Awards are now open and close Friday 8 August 2024. The awards will be presented at the 2024 MAV Annual Conference & Dinner on Thursday 12 September 2024 at Sofitel Melbourne.
Award Categories
Years of Service
Any serving councillor that has completed10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 years of cumulative service as a councillor in Victoria. Periods served over multiple municipalities that are not necessarily in consecutive years are counted as eligible years of service.
Mayor Emeritus
Awarded to any serving councillor that has completed three full terms as Mayor in Victoria. This award can only be received once by a Mayor.
Eligibility
A full term is considered 12 months, commencing in November and concluding in October each year, with the exception of an election year when length of service may be less than 12 months due to the election date set by the VEC. Where this is the case, the term of service is still considered a full term.
Throughout their term, councillors often take leave of absence i.e., parental leave, extended sick leave, extended leave associated with their employment, leave to campaign for political office. Periods of leave are included in the service of a councillor or mayor and do not affect their eligibility for the award.
How to Nominate
Nominations are to be submitted via this online form and must be received COB Friday 8 August 2024
Please note, late submissions will not be accepted.
A professional headshot of the nominated mayor or councillor in jpeg or png format, must be uploaded with the online form for inclusion in the presentation.
Nominations must be certified by the CEO and can only be submitted by the CEO or a council officer on behalf of the CEO e.g., Executive Assistant, Governance Manager, Councillor Support Officer.
The council contact listed on the form will receive an email to advise that the nomination and photo has been received.
Once the nomination form has been ratified, a confirmation email will be sent to the council contact and the Award Recipient.
